Owned and published by award-winning newsman, former talk radio show host and former TV & radio station advertising account manager J.J. Smith, we publish breaking news, feature stories, investigative pieces, video news reports and editorial opinions about topics that our readers have told us they want to read and learn about.

We try to localize many of the major stories that everyone is talking about. We also do some digging and publish investigative news pieces that no other local media is willing to touch.

Thanks to rapid online technology, The Rockwall News  provides breaking news, photos and videos faster than other local media because we can post stories online, just minutes after events actually happen. We’ve already posted numerous stories on our website faster than The Dallas Morning News, local weekly newspapers, or even TV or radio stations.

Our initial news and information blog was launched in May, 2008, as In one year, the readership grew from zero to 8,000 visits per month.

On May 15, 2009, the name was changed to to more accurately brand the website for what it is. The brand name was shortened to The Rockwall News in 2014.

Our goal is to attract a readership of over 50,000+ website users with viewership numbering in the millions of visits per month!


Owner & publisher J.J. Smith started his career in Milwaukee WI, as sports editor and assistant news editor of the Menomonee Falls News, where he received the award for “Best Sports Section” for weekly newspapers from the Wisconsin Newspaper Association.

From there he became a feature news writer at one of the Midwest’s leading public relations agencies, a US Senate campaign press secretary, hospital marketing director, and advertising and promotions director for Houston’s regional METRO transit authority.

From there he spent 15 years as a radio & TV advertising/promotions account executive at several radio stations and Warner Cable TV in Houston and Dallas. In 2000 he launched his own advertising, public relations and political campaign consulting firm.

During his career, J.J. Smith has worked with such leading brands as AMC Theatres, Chevrolet, Dodge, Exxon, Dallas Cowboys Radio Network, KVIL-FM, Macy’s, Six Flags Over Texas, Southwest Airlines and The Houston Chronicle.

In addition, he’s written and placed thousands of news stories for TV, radio, the web and print; produced hundreds of radio &  TV ads; negotiated millions of dollars worth of commercials; plus created dozens of single, joint and multi-brand promotions.

J.J. and his wife, Roxana, have lived in Rockwall since 2003. They have nine children and 16 grandchildren between them. They are active in church, politics and the community.

J.J. is also the founder and president of Americans Ending Abuse, the new nationwide grassroots action organization which works to protect women & children from domestic, dating, child & sexual abuse, plus support survivors. He was raised in a violent family and his greatest passion is to protect abused women and children.
