ROCKWALL – Twenty paintings created by the world famous artist Don Snell, who passed away last year, will be auctioned off at the Uptown Downtown Art Gallery on the Square by Rockwall resident Gary Freedman Oct. 24 at 7 pm.
Known mainly for his expressive figurative paintings, Snell also created sculpture and photography. Throughout his career, Snell had exhibitions in the U.S. and Europe, including in smaller venues near his home in Georgetown TX.
In 2010, Snell was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award form the Austin Visual Arts Association. After serving in World War II in the Army Air Corps, Snell received his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at Austin and completed post graduate studies at Tulane University in New Orleans. He subsequently taught at Tulane, as well as at Arlington State College in Texas and the University of Houston.
