WACO – Rockwall’s defense held strong in the fourth quarter and the Yellowjackets high-powered offense put it into high gear scoring 29 unanswered points on four consecutive touchdowns to beat shell-shocked Spring tonight in their Class 6A Regional Semi-final, 43-26.
Down 26-14 early in the fourth quarter, Jacket senior running back Caleb Broach suddenly burst 60 yards for the first TD. On their next series, senior quarterback Will Reed passed to senior tight end Luke Termin for a 10-yard TD, plus completed the two-point conversion pass to Sam Crawford, putting Rockwall in the lead, 29-26
Not stopping there, junior wide receiver Sam Crawford then broke free for a 78-yard TD, and scored again on their next series on a 18-yard run making the final score 43-26. Jacob Viquez kicked 6-6 very important PATs.
Playing all night in hard rain, turnovers played a major part of the game. Spring lost 5 fumbles and Rockwall lost two, plus had one pass intercepted.
Although Spring outgained Rockwall, 444 to 407 yards – with 377 of their yards on the ground – Reed did complete 8 of 22 passes for 161 yards. Matt Jones also completed one crucial 33 yard pass.
Crawford caught 3 passes for 39 yards. Termin caught 2 for 61 yards and Broach caught 2 for 57 yards.
In rushing, Broach had still one more 100 yard game, running 24 times for 127 yards and 3 TDs. Crawford ran 5 times for 104 yards and 2 TDs.
