Toddler injured by boat propeller will have ‘lifetime of challenges’

DALLAS – The Lewisville firefighter’s three-year-old son, who was hospitalized in critical condition Thursday night after a boat propeller struck him in Lake Ray Hubbard, underwent surgery Saturday for serious leg and abdomen injuries at Children’s Medical Center in Dallas.

He is expected to survive but he’ll have a “lifetime of challenges,” one of his father’s colleagues told FOX4-TV (Channel 4).

Three-year-old Aiden McKitrick, was playing near the gate of a pontoon board when he fell overboard.

His father, Lewisville firefighter Austin McKitrick, pulled him out of the water near the Rush Creek Yacht Club and called 911.

“He’s got some injuries that will affect him the rest of his life,” Assistant Fire Chief Mark McNeal told Fox 4. “He’s going to have therapies, surgeries and medical expenses.”

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the family pay for Aiden’s medical expenses. So far nearly $25,000 of the $50,000 goal has been raised.
